Funding for Travel Grant

The TMGSU travel grant is intended to assist graduate students who were active participants (e.g. speaker, poster presenter, member of a panel) at an academic-related conference with costs associated with conference registration, travel, and accommodations. The TMGSU graduate travel grant supports graduate students to present their research at a regional, national or international conference or equivalent academic event. The graduate travel grant value is up to $500 (a maximum of one award per academic year).

DEADLINE

There is no deadline to apply for this funding, graduate students can apply throughout the academic year (September 1st to August 31st). Applications will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications must be submitted after attending the conference.

ELIGIBLE EXPENSES:

  1. Registration fees for conferences or seminars
  2. Travel expenses related to conferences and seminars (e.g., accommodations, transportation, food)

NON-ELIGIBLE:

Non-related travel expenses, alcohol or cannabis.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Applications will be reviewed by elected TMGSU members within 3-4 weeks post-submission date. Only online submissions will be considered. Hard-copy or incomplete applications will not be accepted or reviewed. The TMGSU will email successful applicants and payment will be dispersed.

Funding for Professional Development 

The TMGSU professional development grant is intended to assist graduate students who attended a professional development-related seminar, certificate, conference or assist with professional membership fees. The TMGSU professional development grant supports graduate students attending seminars, receiving certificates (online or in person), professional association memberships, and conferences to further their professional development. The graduate professional development grant value is up to $250 (a maximum of one award per academic year).

DEADLINE

There is no deadline to apply for this funding, graduate students can apply throughout the academic year (September 1st to August 31st). Applications will be considered on a first come, first served basis.

ELIGIBILITY

Registered in a full-time or part-time program at the time of attendance
Receipt must be dated in the same year as the claim
Professional development must have been completed prior to application
Eligible expenses include registration fees, and membership fees
**Non-eligible expenses include: travel, food, and accommodations

Funding for Course Unions

Course Unions

  • Ensure graduate student voices are heard and represented
  • Serve as a practical forum in which students may approach and discuss relevant political, cultural, and academic interests
  • Encourage interaction amongst students, professors and the TMGSU to ensure students in each program are informed of issues relevant to the university community
  • Foster broad student interest and participation in campaigns and initiatives that benefit graduate students
  • Create opportunities for social events for students in graduate programs and promote the program to prospective students and employers

Each graduate course union will be allotted $1000 for the year to spend on associated events and activities. This funding is a great way to pay for fun community-building activities within your program!
